Editor's note: Severe droughts have hit many parts of northern China since the beginning of the year. Due to low precipitation, there is inadequate moisture in the soil for the growth of crops. According to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, as of April 11, the extent of drought-hit lands had reached 19.3 million mu (about 1.29 million hectares), of which 12.52 million mu (about 834,660 hectares) were crop lands. More than 200,000 people and 80,000 animals are facing shortages of drinking water. The drought-hit areas are mainly in six provinces: Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi and Gansu. The following pictures show the drought situation in Weifang, Shandong Province.
