Editor's note: The Gaokao, China's college entrance exam, is not only a critical moment for college candidates vying to get accepted into their dream schools – it's also a chance for parents, teachers, volunteers and other community members to show their support for the test-takers.

Presented here is a different perspective of the "notorious" test, one from outside the examination room.

The photos were taken on June 7 outside the subsidiary high school of the Capital Normal University, one of 96 Gaokao exam sites in Beijing.
