Editor's note:

Everything from the most elegant stiletto, to the "ugly" UGG boots, from extravagant gladiators to the easiest slip-ones, one kind of "humble" sneakers, the Adidas "Stan Smith" brand (named after a top American tennis player in the 1960s and 1970s) is proving to be the ultimate fashion footwear and no passing fad.

Beloved by TV celebrities, fashion designers, artists, and stylists, this timely sneaker, first marketed in the 1960s, hit its stride in the 1980s and became a fashion phenomenon in the 21st century. It is hailed as one of the top tennis shoes of all time, both in sales and influence.

Check out stylists in Sanlitun, a shopping hub in Beijing's eastern Chaoyang district, as they sport their dainty white shoes among the crowds.
