Editor's note: The photos show a construction scene representative of the ongoing work in Beijing’s historical city center, in relation to the Hutong restoration program. The re-furnishing of buildings aimed at restoring their original design, often leaving only a small window to face the street. In addition, the bricking up of unlicensed or inappropriately constructed commercial buildings aims to ease the pressure of overcrowding in the city center.
