The scorching sun in summer bakes the earth. In a bus company in Ningbo, in east China's Zhejiang Province, the metal rooves of the vehicles are as hot as a soldering iron in the afternoon. A group of workers concentrate on their work. They won’t take a rest, although sweating all over.

Among them is Chen Xin, 33, an air conditioner maintenance worker at the branch company of Ningbo Bus Corporation. He and his colleagues have worked very hard during the past scorching summer months to ensure normal operations.

At least four or five buses need repair and maintenance every day due to air conditioning problems, and the average time taken on each bus is about two hours. So, working an extra shift is normal for these men. Sometimes they have to work till 2 or 3 a.m. to ensure all the vehicles set out on time and run normally the following day.

Chen Xin has checked and repaired about 13,000 buses and so has accumulated rich experience in air conditioning repair and maintenance. From a young apprentice to senior technician, he has witnessed the rapid and dramatic changes in the bus industry in this coastal city.

The constant upgrading of public transport vehicles imposes higher requirements for technicians. To keep up with the times and continuously improve his skills, Chen has to keep gaining fresh knowledge by participating in various training classes and technical competitions.

Chen follows good work ethics and conduct. He never puts off today's work until tomorrow, even in cases of minor illnesses, minor injuries, and bad weather. His diligence and high skills have won everyone's respect.

"It's not so terrible to work in hot weather. To bear some hardship is nothing for me if it can make things easier and safer for drivers and their passengers," Chen said.
