Editor's note: The ancient Silk Road, with its network of trade routes connecting the East and West through Eurasia, was central to cultural interaction for centuries and played a significant role in the development of the civilizations of China and Syria, as part of ancient Arabia. The history of the trade route attests to the deep-rootedness of China-Syria relations in terms of bilateral economic and cultural exchange.

The Chinese flag flies above one end of a mural on the wall of the Chinese Embassy in Damascus, Syria. The mural, by Syrian artist Fida Mansour, portrays the Great Wall of China along the Silk Road. [Photo by Haifa Said / China.org.cn]
