Northwestern Beijing’s Yanqing district staged a traditional performance this morning to mark the annual Lantern Festival and wrap up celebrations of the Lunar New Year.

The Lantern Festival, which fell on March 2 this year, is a Chinese holiday observed annually on the 15th day of the first lunar month.

Around 1,400 performers from Yanqing, split among 40 different groups, took part in a parade which included traditional lion dances, land-boat dances and Yangko dances as well as stilt walking.

Local residents and tourists poured into the street to observe the festive activities.

The time-honored performance of the Lantern Festival parade in Yanqing has become a must-see for local residents and visitors during the Spring Festival celebration.

Yanqing will also host the International Horticultural Exhibition in 2019 and will be one of three sites hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022.
