Editor's Note:The Templo Mayor (or "main temple" in English) was the centerpiece of Tenochtitlan, the Aztecan capital city that was overtaken by the Spanish in 1521 and replaced by Mexico City. The temple was founded in the early 1300's and underwent six stages of expansion, which can be seen in the temple's ruins. The Templo Mayor currently sits in the very heart of Mexico City – just next door to the Metropolitan Cathedral – and offers visitors a taste of pre-Hispanic Mexico.
