The ninth Beijing International Cycling Tour (BICT) was held in northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district on June 15. The event attracted more than 5,000 amateur and professional cyclists from around the country riding for either recreation and competition.
World figure skating champion Tong Jian, students from Turkmenistan studying in China, young scooter riders and other enthusiastic cyclists joined the morning's amateur group and earned a chance to visit the ongoing Beijing International Horticultural Expo held in Yanqing.
About 300 families took part in the scooter competition on the same day.
Besides the 17km cycling event for amateurs, a road race was held in the district on the afternoon of June 15, with more than 200 professionals competing in the 24km and 40km competitions.
Yanqing has been a choice destination for many cyclists because of its picturesque lanes and rustic charms. It is a cluster of well-known scenic spots such as the Great Wall and the Longqing Gorge. Now, the sports event is further boosting local tourism and development.
