The service life of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is 120 years, compared to the usual 100 years of ordinary bridges. Liu Yang, vice executive manager of the China Railway South Engineering Equipment Co. Ltd., revealed the "secret of longevity" while speaking to the media on July 16, 2019.

Liu explained that robotic welding technologies were used for the steel girders, offering very stable quality.

Moreover, special measures have been used in the overall steel structures, painting and many other aspects to ensure a 120-year service life of the bridge, Liu added.

"It can be said that, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the first bridge-tunnel combination project of China. It is a breakthrough in bridge manufacturing in the country, and a preliminary exploration for future construction."

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, linking the mainland province of Guangdong with the country's two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macao, opened on Oct. 23, 2018.

Stretching about 55 kilometers, the bridge is of great significance in promoting development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

China Railway South Engineering Equipment Co. Ltd., participated in the construction of the bridge. Located in Zhongshan city, Guangdong province, the company is renowned as "China's national team in bridge building" because of its outstanding achievements.

Zhongshan city is the largest prefabricated component production base in the Pearl River Delta and all the steel girders for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge construction were produced here.
