Cuandixia village, located in Mentougou District in the western suburbs of Beijing, is a three-hour drive from downtown Beijing. The village is known for its well preserved houses built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. These houses are built on the side of a hill, surrounded by mountains and forests. Access comes from steep stairs and lanes paved with rocks that are simple and unadorned. (Photo by Wan Lina/China.org.cn)
