The 10th Beijing International Cycling Tour (BICT) was held in Banquan Sports Park, northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district, on September 19. The event attracted more than 500 amateur and professional cyclists from around the country riding for either recreation and competition.
Jiang Cuihua, China's 1st Olympic cycling medal winner, took the lead and joined the amateur group, young scooter riders and other enthusiastic cyclists.
Besides the cycling event for amateurs, a road race was held in the park on the same day, with 66 teenagers from the capital competing in the 200m, 500m, 1km and 5km competitions.
The Banquan Sports Park in Yanqing, open to the public yesterday, boasts road cycling race tracks and 33km-long hiking track lined with greenery. It aims to build itself into the largest outdoor sports park in north China.
Yanqing has been a choice destination for many cyclists because of its picturesque lanes and rustic charms. It is a cluster of well-known scenic spots such as the Great Wall and the Longqing Gorge.
