China Regains Top Spot on Fastest Supercomputer List

● The homegrown Tianhe-2 supercomputer is capable of continuously performing 33.86 quadrillion operations per second, with a peak speed of 54.9 quadrillion operations per second, making it a world leader in supercomputing technology.

● It will take 1.3 billion calculator users 1,000 years to finish the computing Tianhe-2 does in just an hour. The supercomputer's total data storage volume is equivalent to 60 billion copies of 100,000- character books.

● Tianhe-2's speed is twice that of Titan, the former champion developed by the United States. Its computing capacity per unit of area occupied is 2.5 times that of Titan.

● Tianhe-2's speed and computing capacity per unit of area occupied are more than 10 times those of its predecessor, Tianhe-1. Its performance per unit of energy consumed and power consumption are respectively twice and one third those of Tianhe-1.
