Dennis Masai wants to eclipse his siblings and set a new world record in 10,000m and is relishing the challenge he anticipates in Moncton, Canada from July 19 where he will be with the rest of the Kenyan team for the World Junior Championship.
Masai, together with other 24 budding talented athletes started a residential training in Nairobi on Saturday where they aim to sharpen their skills before jetting out on July 15.
"I see this as a challenge. I have always envied my siblings, world champion in women 10,000m race Linet Masai and men bronze medallist Moses Masai. They have been advising me on the bets running tactics and I want to prolong my career as a 10,000m runner," he said.
Kenya is eying to reclaim the overall title for the third time in a row after splendid performance in Santiago (Chile) in 2000 and Beijing in 2006.
"I will not fear anyone. I have raced abroad once and I want to make a name for myself and be like my sister," said Masai.
Isaiah Kiplagat, Athletics Kenya Chairman also welcomed a rare entry in the team walker David Munyao and triple jump Kiptoo Yator who will double up as a sprinter in the 100m dash.
"It is a unique combination, running the 100m always corresponds well with the long jump. But is an effort and an area we as AK want to see more athletes coming through. We must break the middle and long distance monotony," said Kiplagat.
