The home crowd still have their favourite son in the competition after two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt overcame America's Andy Roddick.
The veteran American was forced to retire at the end of the third set with Hewitt leading 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Roddick injured his leg early in the second set but played on till the end of the third, before deciding he couldn't play on.
The pick of today's third round action sees world number two Rafa Nadal in action against Slovakian Lukas Lacko, while Swiss legend Roger Federer meets the big-serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic. The home-crowd are sure to be in huge voice for youngster Bernard Tomic who faces 13th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine before fifth seed Li Na takes to Rod Laver Arena for her third round tie with Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues.
Top women's seed Caroline Wozniacki is also in action against Romanian Monica Niculescu.
