The Chinese men's and women's table tennis teams won gold medals after beating South Korea and Japan 3-1 and 3-0 respectively at the 6th East Asian Games (EAG) on Wednesday.

Fan Zhendong, men's singles silver medalist at the 12th National Games in September, played the key role again after semifinals on Tuesday with two wins for the team.

"Through the semifinals and finals, I feel much confidence on court and try to play as well as possible," said Fan.

In group stage of the men's team event, China beat South Korea 3-0.

"Generally speaking, today's match is more fierce than the first encounter," said Wu Jingping, coach of Chinese men's team.

Japan and Hong Kong of China shared the bronze medals.

Wu Yang, Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling, all born in 1990s, offered Chinese women's team "fresh blood" and prospect for future.

"We recruit three young players for this EAG, while training and competing with an Olympics standard," said Chinese coach Li Sun.

Li also expressed congratulations to the opponents on their tremendous achievement in recent years, especially in reference to Ishikawa Kasumi.

Third place went to South Korea and Hong Kong of China in women's team event.
