The party was held one day before the opening of Nanjing 2014.

Bach expressed his confidence in the Nanjing games, believing it would be a "fantastic" gala. He said he was looking forward to seeing 3,800 athletes have a great time in Nanjing.

"I hope all of you will enjoy the Games in Nanjing, make more friends and achieve good results," said the IOC president.

Also with Bach at the party were role models including Olympic champions Liu Xiang and Wang Liqin, who will inspire youth athletes with their stories of sportsmanship and growth over the next 12 days.
