Real Madrid achieved a record away win on Saturday as they won 8-2 away to Deportivo la Coruna.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 23rd hat-trick, while Gareth Bale and Javier Hernandez both scored twice with James Rodriguez also getting on the scoresheet. Carlo Ancelotti's side romped to victory against a side that never showed belief in their possibilities.

Real Madrid were 3-0 up at the break through a combination of good finishing and woeful defending from the home side as Ronaldo scored twice and James scored a screamer, and the goals kept on coming after the break as Deportivo gave the ball away time and again on the edge of their penalty area.

Bale had been almost invisible but scored two neat left foot goals, while Hernandez scored twice from outside of the area, something that doesn't happen very often.

Real's win was given extra value as Atletico Madid could only draw 2-2 at home to Celta Vigo.

Celta took the lead through Pablo Hernandez who scored a magnificent flicked goal, but goals from Joao Miranda and Diego Godin saw Atletico overturn the deficit before a Nolito penalty saw a fair distribution of the points in a game where Atletico striker, Raul Jimenez was booed by the home fans in what was only his second appearance for the club.

Athletic Club Bilbao's Champions League efforts in midweek paid their dues as the Basque side lost 1-0 at home to a well-drilled Granada. Jhon Cordoba's goal following an error from Ander Iturraspe was the difference between the two teams as the Granada defense proved to be rock solid.
