Chinese female shuttler Liu Xin, as the only Chinese player in the women's singles semifinals, was defeated by the 5th seed Saina Nehwal from India on Saturday in 2014 Badminton China Open.

China had never missed any women's finals in Badminton China Open's 28 years' history since 1986. Boasting 23 champions in total, China was embarrassed this time.

"She (Saina) played more patiently than me," said Liu. "I lost points too easily when I was two points ahead 16-14 in the second set. It cost me the whole game."

"I did not play well, and the failures of Wang Shixian and Wang Yihan might have a bit impact on me," said Liu.

Akane, ranking the 16th, unexpectedly breezed past Wang Shixian, ranking second in the world and the second seed of the event. The 18-year-old Japanese girl, without outstanding physical condition, took just 40 minutes to finish the match with Wang who only got 24 points in the two sets on Friday.

Women's singles third seed Wang Yihan had been beaten by the 5th seed Bae Yeon Ju from South Korea in yesterday's quarterfinal.

The final will be played between Saina Nehwal and Akane Yamaguchi who defeated Bae Yeon Ju 21-10, 25-23 in the semis.

"The first seed Li Xuerui abandoned this event before it started because of her injury, which is kind of loss of the game," said China head coach Li Yongbo.

"Chinese young girls look a bit tired. Maybe they have too many big games and some of them are not in high spirit. I believe they'll get better with some scientific training."

Lin Dan, badminton super star in China, seemingly recovered from his knees' injury and advanced to the men's singles final on Sunday by defeating Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei, 21-17, 21-17 on Saturday.

Chinese pairs Chai Biao/Hong Wei, Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang and Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, will respectively fight in the finals of the men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
