Shang SIPG announced a domestic signing on Sunday, just days before it plays Thailand's Sukhothai FC in its first 2017 AFC Champions League qualifier match on Tuesday.

Jia Tianzi, a midfielder who played for Chinese League One side Shanghai Shenxin from 2014-2016, joined Andre Villas-Boas' team as a free agent. Jia, who will be 23 at the end of the month, has played for Portuguese clubs Amora (third division) and SC Covilha (second division) prior to coming back to China.

Jia is SIPG's latest signing for the 2017 season following the arrivals of former Chelsea and Brazilian player Oscar, Odil Ahmedov from Uzbekistan and Chinese defender Wu Hang.

"We will give young players more match time in the new CSL season," SIPG general manager Sui Guoyang said on Sunday. "The team is preparing to fight together for our goal (of winning a championship in 2017)."

Sui was speaking at SIPG's monthly fans gathering at Shanghai Stadium on Sunday.

At the gathering, club officials unveiled three "glory walls" at the entrances of Stand 24, 25 and 26 of the stadium. Printed on the glass walls are the names of the club's registered fans. The club built the walls to express its gratefulness to the long-term supporters.
