The Uganda football federation has appointed former Zambian football star Kalusha Bwalya to head the interview panel that will vet coaches applying for the job of national coach Uganda Cranes.

Edgar Ssubi Watson, the Chief Executive of the federation on Wednesday told reporters that they decided to appoint Bwalya because of his experience.

"We have considered Kalusha Bwalya because of his legacy in African football as a player, an administrator and a member of the Confederation of African Football technical committee," said Watson.

Bwalya was the 1988 African player of the year and also former president of the Zambian football federation.

Watson said applications for the Cranes job will open on Oct. 23 and close on Oct. 29 before the winner is unveiled on Nov. 15.

The job of national football coach fell vacant two months ago when Serbian born tactician Milutin Sredojevic opted out after the Federation failed to clear his outstanding salary arrears of about 51,000 U.S. dollars.

The federation appointed Moses Basena as an interim coach.
