China's two-time Olympic boxing champion Zou Shiming is suspected to have lost his sight one day after he attended the Laureus China Top 10 Athletes awards ceremony on Dec. 20 in Beijing.
According to his wife Ran Yingying, Zou is being treated at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, awaiting more physical examinations.
The hospital declined to reveal any information.
Zou was spotted wearing sunglasses and clinging to his wife while walking in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on Dec. 21.
Some online users have posted on microblogging service Sina Weibo that they saw the once-agile boxer run into a pillar at the airport, causing wild speculation that he has lost his sight.
Zou's wife also posted on Sina Weibo that "the day couldn't be worse" for her.
Many online users expressed sympathy, hoping Zou could recover soon.
Zou won the gold medal in the light flyweight division of the Olympic Games in both 2008 and 2012.
