Guangsha secure top spot in CBA regular season

With Hu Jinqiu's 37 points, Guangsha beat Shanxi 126-116 to set up a ten-game winning streak and win the champion of 2017-2018 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league regular season in the 36th round on Tuesday.


With only two rounds left in the regular season, Guangsha gets 30 wins, two more than second-placed Liaoning and virtually secure the title of the regualr season.


Shanxi led the game in the first quarter, but got reversed by the visiting Guangsha thanks to Hu Jinqiu's resurgence in the second quarter. The visiting team Guangsha then extended the gap to ten points in the last quarter to seal the victory.


20-year-old Hu Jinqiu earned 37 points to equal his cereer record. Courtney Fortson got 24 points and 12 rebounds for Guangsha. Ex-NBA plarer Luis Scola got team-high 29 points and 16 rebounds for Shanxi, and 24-year-old Yan Pengfei got 26 points and 10 rebounds.


Liaoning beat Shenzhen 119-107 to get a five-game winning streak with star Guo Ailun's coming back from injury. Liaoning led the game from the first quarter and extended the lead to more than 20 points after the second quarter, and Shenzhen had no chance to surpass.


Defending champion Xinjiang lost the game against Beijing 111-95, and dropped to the eighth place. Shandong beat Shanghai 117-92 to get the 10th successive home win.


Elsewhere, Jiangsu smashed Tianjin 124-105, Guangdong edged Zhejiang 107-102.
