Chinese Super League (CSL) side Dalian Yifang have appointed German Bernd Schuster as their new coach, replacing Ma Lin, the club announced on Monday night.
Newly-promoted Dalian Yifang have spent big to ensure success in the Chinese Super League, bringing in the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Nico Gaitan from Atletico Madrid, but they got off to a nightmare start with three defeats in a row, leaving them bottom of the table.
It will be Schuster's first coaching role since quitting Turkish club Besiktas in March 2011.
The 58-year-old spent most of his coaching career in Spain, with second division Xerez and top-flight sides Levante and Getafe, before he took over at Real Madrid in 2007.
Despite guiding the team to the second successive league title in 2008, he was sacked midway through the following season.
His first game in charge is likely to be against Henan Jianye when the Chinese Super League gets back underway at the end of the month.
