All permanent stadiums for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are designed for future use after the games, and can transform into ice and snow sports center for the recreation of the residents, according to the organization committee.

As one of the permanent stadiums, the National Speed Skating Oval has been under construction following the principle of sustainability since the venue selection and design. The stadium will turn into a multi-functional ice sports center after the Olympic event, and serve as a center for sports competition, daily exercise, recreation, exhibition, and so on.

The stadium's 12,000-square-meter ice surface is the largest ice surface in Asia. According to the map of the stadium, the outer track is for the games, and the inner area is divided into two rinks for ice sports, but with a lifting platform in the center which can be hidden, the two rinks can integrate into a large one.

Other facilities are also designed for sustainable use. The training area for athletes will change into one for amateurs and fans of ice and snow sports; the press conference hall will transform into a multi-media classroom; and the concession stand will go on operating as well.

As scheduled, the underground structure of the stadium will be finished by the end of this month, the main structure will take shape by September, the construction of the roof will start from December, and the curtain walls and ice making will finish next year.
