Robert Lewandowski's hattrick helped Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich ease past German Cup winners Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 in the Supercup on Sunday.

The "Bavarians" have secured the Supercup for the seventh time and the third time in row.

The German giants have clinched their first silverware of the season, as goals from Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman and Thiago Alcantara were enough to conquer uninspired "Eagles" in a one-sided affair on home soil.

Bayern ensured a lively opening period on the road and the hosts staged a cautious start into the game.

The visitor's efforts paid off with 21 minutes into the encounter when Joshua Kimmich's cross to the far post corner found Robert Lewandowski, who nodded home the opener.

Frankfurt wobbled and were unable to respond whereas Bayern gained momentum to double the lead five minutes after the opener, as Lewandowski headed home a corner to mark his second goal of the night.

After the restart, Bayern started where they left off and pressed Frankfurt into the defence. Hence, Lewandowski sealed his hat rick after slotting home from the edge of the box with 54 minutes played.

The "Eagles" lacked in penetration and ideas meanwhile Bayern continued offensively minded to extend their lead as Kingsley Coman tapped home David Alaba's assist to make it 4-0 on the scoreboards.

However, the German record champions were not done with the scoring as Thiago Alcantra poked home Coman's square pass to seal the deal in the 85th minute.

"Big compliment and congratulations to my team. We did very well over 90 minutes. We scored at the right time and secured a deserved victory," new Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac said.

"We staged an awkward performance today. We have to congratulate Bayern, who dominated the game in every aspect. Bayern's second goal was the crunch point. We got whitewashed but we have to learn from this loss," Frankfurt coach Adi Huetter said.

The Supercup is the curtain raiser of the Bundesliga season and features the German Cup winners against the Bundesliga champions.
