FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Italian side Sassuolo for the transfer of Brazilian central defender Marlon Santos for a price of 6 million euros.

The 22-year-old had looked to have a promising future ahead of him at the Camp Nou, where he made two first team appearances for Barca at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

However, after Luis Enrique's departure and the arrival of Ernesto Valverde as Barca coach a year ago saw Marlon loaned to Nice where he played in 26 league matches last season.

The deal sees Barcelona maintain 50 percent of the player's rights, as they will earn half of the money of any future sale. These rights would be lost in the case of Marlon making 50 appearances for Sassuolo, but the Italians would have to pay a further 6 million euros to Barca taking the total fee to 12 million euros.
