China women's doubles Xu Yifan and Yang Zahoxuan won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games women's tennis doubles after beating Chinese Taipei duo Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yungjan.

For China's senior and junior pairing, this victory is very significant, especially for the senior, Yifan, because this is her last Asian Games.

"Winning this match is very meaningful because it's very different between the Asian Games and other tournaments. This is a combination of everything. This is our first win at the Asian Games and maybe the last for me, so I feel honored to win this," said Yifan at Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang, Saturday.

The same feeling was also expressed by Yang Zhaoxuan, who said she was very happy to win the Asian Games with Xu, who is one of China's best players, although winning the final fight was not easy.

"I am happy to win here with Xu. We won the match. We enjoyed it and will continue to try our best, for every ball and every point," said Zhaoxuan, who added she would soon be preparing to compete in the United States Open in the next four days for the singles and doubles category.

Playing at the main court of the Jakabaring tennis complex in Palembang, Xu and Yang made sure to add to China's medal tally by beating the Chan sisters in a three-set match. Their match was marked by tight scoring from the beginning until they took turns to lead in each set.

The final result was unfortunate for the Chan sisters after they reversed the score to lead with a tie-break of 9-8. However, Xu and Yang equalized and left their opponents behind, ensuring the gold medal for China with a final result of 6-2, 1-6 and tie break 11-9 (R030).
