Julen Lopetegui celebrated his 101st day in charge of the Real Madrid with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Espanyol.

Real Madrid produced arguably their worst performance of the season against a rival which has now won just one out of 23 games against them, but Marco Asensio's goal 4 minutes from halftime was enough to give them three points.

Thomas Lemar was decisive as Atletico Madrid won 2-0 away to Getafe; Atletico's big summer signing created the opening goal with a shot that ended up in the net off the back of Getafe keeper David Soria after 14 minutes and scored his side's second on the hour, seven minutes before Getafe were reduced to 10 men after Ivan Alejo's red card.

Ibai Gomez was the star as Deportivo Alaves kicked off Saturday with a crushing 5-1 win away to Rayo Vallecano in the newly renovated Vallecas Stadium.

Ximo Navarro opened the scoring for Alaves but his goal was cancelled out by Raul de Tomas on the half hour.

There then came the decisive moment of the game as Ibai restored Alaves' lead with a left foot shot at virtually the same moment Abdoulaye Ba was sent off for an off the ball incident which was spotted by the VAR.

Further goals from Jonathan Calleri, Ibai and Burghi in the second half gave Alaves three more points to continue their impressive start to the campaign.

Valladolid remain without a win, but have the satisfaction of coming back from 3-1 down to claim a 3-3 draw away to Celta Vigo.

Iago Aspas scored twice for the home side, but Enes Unal and Leo Suarez, who netted in the 94th minute, gave Valladolid a morale boosting point.

Leganes remain winless and bottom of the table after losing 1-0 away to Eibar, who took all three points thanks to Kike Garcia's second half goal.

Friday Real Sociedad win 1-0 away to Huesca with a second half goal from Mikel Merino, although the Basque side ended with just nine men on the pitch after Juanmi was sent off for seeing two yellow cards in a matter of seconds and left back Theo Hernandez was shown a direct red in the closing minutes of the game for an aggression.
