French sensational teenager Kylian Mbappe's four goals in 13 minutes earned Paris Saint-Germain a 5-0 thrash of Lyon at home to extend their winning streak to record-breaking nine matches since the start of Ligue 1 season on Sunday.

PSG had already tied Olympique Lillois' record of eighth consecutive victory in 1936 last weekend, while becoming the sole record holders following Sunday's win.

With a perfect winning record in nine matches so far, PSG are eight points ahead of Lille, while Lyon are placed sixth with five points further behind.

Lyon could not expect a worse start than they did, as their skipper Nabil Fekir was forced to walk off the pitch due to injury just seven minutes into the match, before they conceded a penalty.

Mbappe was brought down by goalkeeper Anthony Lopes when grabbing a loose ball in penalty area, and Neymar didn't waste his chance in the ninth minute.

PSG were reduced to 10 men following Presnel Kimpembe's tackle on Tanguy Ndombele in the 35th minute. Kimpembe was initially shown a yellow card, but the match referee changed that into red after consulting to Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

However, Lyon also saw themselves down to 10 men before the break, as Lucas Tousart unnecessarily tripped Mbappe and received his second yellow card of the match.

The second half seemed to be quite open for both sides. After squandering several chances of extending the lead, Mbappe finally made that in the 61st minute, when his shot found the target off both posts.

Five minutes later, the 19-year-old Frenchman latched onto center half Marquinhos' cross to sweep home.

Mbappe produced the hat trick in the 69th minute before he was released by Neymar to lift the ball over Lopes, and fired home to finish his quadruple in the 74th minute. He and Neymar led the league's scoring sheets with eight goals apiece.

Monaco, last season's runners-up to PSG, continued their misery into this season with their fifth loss in nine matches following Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Rennes.

Rennes managed to go ahead in less than 15 minutes, when Damien Da Silva got in front of Andrea Raggi to meet Hatem Ben Arfa's corner. It got worse for Monaco as Raggi was dismissed before the interval for lashing out at Clement Grenier.

Despite Radamel Falcao's equalizer early in the second half, former PSG player Ben Arfa scored a winning goal in the 77th minute.

Winless after their season opener, Monaco are just outside the automatic relegation zone due to their goal difference advantage.

World Cup winner Florian Thauvin was pivotal in guiding Marseille to a 2-0 victory over Caen.

Thauvin's powerful shot ricocheted off Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou's head into the net in the 36th minute. Then Thauvin created shooting space at the edge of the box before sending the ball into the bottom corner.

Earlier on Sunday, Bordeaux crushed Nantes 3-0, seeing the latter still second from the bottom.
