Schalke and veteran defender Naldo have agreed on a contract extension ahead of schedule, the "Royal Blues" announced in a statement via the club's official homepage on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old Brazilian has added another year to his current contract, which will keep him in Gelsenkirchen until June 2020.
"As a person and a player Naldo is a very important role model for our team and the club," Schalke's sporting director Christian Heidel said.
Naldo joined the "Knappen" from league rival Wolfsburg in the summer 2016. He made ever since 75 appearances providing nine goals and three assists.
"I am delighted to continue playing for Schalke. It is a great club with incredible and loyal fans. I am looking forward to more successful years at this great club," Naldo said.
Schalke sit currently on a disappointing 15th place. They encounter Werder Bremen at the 8th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
