Guangdong edges Xinjiang in OT for 7th straight win

The coreless Guangdong nipped Xinjiang 129-127 in the seventh round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Sunday, extending their winning streak to 7.


Zhao Rui and CBA rookie Du Runwang combined for 65 points for the home team while the key player Yi Jianlian, Zhou Peng and Sonny Weems were absent. Yi suffered the injuries in the last match against Jiangsu and was possibly absent for the games in the following week. Zhou Peng and Sonny Weems were suspended for their rude and insulting gestures posed to the audience and referees in the last game.


However, Guangdong showed the depth of the team thanks to the excellent proformances from their young players. Zhao earned the team-high 40 points and Du made 7 three-pointers out of 9 attempts. Meng duo, with 10 points and 4 rebounds though, finished the buzzer beater in the overtime and sealed the victory.


Darius Adams and Abudushalamu Abudurexiti combined for 92 points and 27 rebounds for Xinjiang. Adams scored a stunning 61 points and contributes 11 assists.


Guangsha, the other team with a perfect record going into the seven round, overwhelmed Aolong 132-94. Jiangsu defeated Long Lions 112-102 with seven players scoring double-digit points. Jilin lost to Shenzhen at home court 122-112 where 4 players of the visiting team shot more than 20 points. Jared Sullinger made the amazing double double of 31 points and 19 rebounds.


Elsewhere on Sunday, Shanxi lost to Shanghai 101-88. Beijing topped Tongxi 114-102.
