Hudson, Guo combine for 66 pts to lift Liaoning

Lester Hudson and Guo Ailun combined for 66 points to carry Liaoning over Qingdao 136-117 in the 8th round of the 2018-2019 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday night.


Visiting Qingdao started the first quarter strong with a 7-0 run, Lester Hudson answered by hitting a 3-pointer and a layup to put Liaoning on top 17-11. The defending champion claimed a lead with 31-18 into the second quarter.


With the help of Jonathan Gibson off the bench, the former Dallas Mavericks guard, Qingdao made a 10-0 run and cut it to 31-28. Liaoning woke up from their slumber and grabbed a 64-52 lead thanks to their All-Star guards Guo Ailun and Hudson at half time.


Qingdao missed shots during a 15-3 run by Liaoning that turned a 12 points deficit into a 90-66 lead. Qingdao got two 3-pointers from Gibson and Zhang Chengyu and trailed by 10 in the fourth. Li Xiaoxu and Hudson hit key shots beyond the arc to clinch the victory for Liaoning.


Liaoning's Hudson scored 39 points and Guo Ailun added 27 to lead five players in double figures. Gibson chipped in 48 points and 8 assists.


Guangsha appeared on its way to another easy victory over Bayi when rising star Hu Jinqiu was unstoppable, his dunk gave Guangsha a 48-42 lead and local shooter Zhao Yanhao beat the shot clock with a 3-pointer that increased the lead to seven at halftime break.


The outcome was decided in the third quarter, when Guangsha outscored Bayi 37-17 and sealed a 113-85 win finally. Hu Jinqiu got a game-high 25 points, Han Shuo had 15 points and 7 rebounds for Bayi.
