Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has been forced to drop out of the Spain national team squad as the result of a groin strain.

Ramos, who played in Spain's 3-2 UEFA Nations League defeat to Croatia on Thursday night, will not be able to travel with the rest of the squad to play Sunday's friendly game in Las Palmas against Bosnia-Herzegovina and will instead return to his club to receive treatment.

The central defender's injury comes at a bad time for Madrid coach Santiago Solari, who will be without Nacho Fernandez and Casemiro for at least six weeks each, while young central defender Sergio Reguilion has also been sidelined for a fortnight with a hamstring problem.

The good news for Real Madrid is that Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal and Marcelo have returned to full training following their respective injuries and should be available for the next league game, which is a difficult trip to play Eibar on November 24th.

Meanwhile Spain's defeat to Croatia means that although the Spanish have no chance of being relegated from their Nations League group, they will fail to finish top if there is a positive result in Sunday's match between England and Croatia at Wembley.
