China's Wuxi was chosen as the host city of 2021 World Taekwondo Championships and the World Para Taekwondo Championships according to World Taekwondo Extraordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday in Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates.

The meeting's biggest announcement was the awarding of the 2021 World Taekwondo Championships and 2021 World Para Taekwondo Championships to Wuxi which earned all the votes out of the four candidate cities.

Representing the city, Vice Mayor of Wuxi Liu Xia said in the meeting, "I am happy and excited. We will do our best to prepare for those big events."

Wuxi is investing heavily in the sport and is the host and sponsor of the World Taekwondo Grand Slam inaugurated in 2017. The Chinese national training center of the sport has been established here and the program of the World Taekwondo University is under planning.

Wuxi is the third Chinese city to host this top event following Hong Kong in 1997 and Beijing in 2007.
