As one of the three major hosting sites for the 2022 Winter Olympics, Beijing's Yanqing district is accelerating the preparations to ensure that the Alpine Ski Center will become test ready in 2019 and that the test competitions will be held successfully in 2020, according to reports from the ongoing annual municipal people's congress.

At present, 24 out of the total 35 projects for the 2022 Games in Yanqing have broken ground, including the Alpine Ski Center and the Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Center. Construction on these is progressing along, and the remaining 11 projects have yet to begin.

In 2018, Yanqing launched 21 projects of Winter Olympics venues. Among them, three projects including the Xiatun temporary interception and transfer parking lot have been completed, and 18 projects such as the National Alpine Ski Center, the National Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Center, and the Yanqing section of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway are progressing steadily.

The district also did a lot of preparations in terms of service guarantee, such as in catering, medical care, and transportation. It has set up a food and drug emergency command center and made the construction plan of the Winter Olympics Service Area. The four medical centers have been completed and put to service, and the construction of the integrated transportation service center and parking lots has been well planned. In addition, the preparatory work for the test match for the Winter Olympics alpine skiing and the Alpine Ski World Cup (Yanqing) is advancing in an orderly manner, and the venue operation scheme and the peripheral security plan are being drawn up.

In 2019, Yanqing's preparations for the Winter Olympics are pacing up. The construction of 35 key projects of the Winter Olympics will be accelerated. For the 24 projects under construction, the contractor shall strive to fulfill the annual construction targets as scheduled, which include the Alpine Ski Center and the Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Center, and the preparations for the remaining 11 projects will be done in a smooth way. By the end of September, some racing tracks and supporting facilities in the Alpine Ski Center will have been completed and put to use, and supporting projects such as water and electricity shall be able to meet the needs of snow making.

In 2019, the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway will be steadily progressing. The Yanqing section of the railway is facing its three toughest challenges in New Badaling Tunnel, Badaling Great Wall Station and Kangzhuang Viaduct. The Badaling Great Wall Station is the largest underground excavated railway station; the Badaling Tunnel has to go parallel with the Shuiguan Great Wall and go under the Badaling Great Wall and the Qinglongqiao Station of the old Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway. The new Badaling Tunnel was completed in December 2018 and the track laying is scheduled to complete in early April this year and open to service on Dec. 31.

Connecting the exit of New Badaling Tunnel and Dawangzhuang village of Kangzhuang town, the Kangzhuang Viaduct has a main-line of 19.12 kilometers and a Yanqing branch of 9.25 kilometers. So far, construction of its main-line roadbed, ballast-free tracks, and the northern part of its branch has been completed. And track-laying on the branch is under way. In 2019, the following work about Kangzhuang Viaduct will be carried out: deck waterproofing, roadbed protection, construction of the southern part of its branch, and the modification of Yanqing Railway Station. Moreover, its Yanqing branch will be finished by the end of February and track-laying of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway will be completed by the end of March.

Apart from the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway, another traffic artery to serve the Winter Olympics is the Beijing-Chongli expressway (Daxing-Yanqing section and Yanqing-Chongli section). With a total length of about 116 kilometers (around 33.2 kilometers in Beijing), it will also be completed this year.

In addition, Yanqing actively promotes the introduction and training of talents for the Winter Olympics. A total of 232 volunteers and ski instructors will be trained. During the snow season of 2018-2019, the district will continue to carry out snow sports training for its staff, with the number to increase to 20,000. From Jan. 10 to 25, a total of 90 people will be sent to participate in the training of ski instructors in Switzerland. Meanwhile, the district will regularly send people to referee trainings in Beijing, so as to prepare more professional referees for winter sports events.
