Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki announced his retirement in an emotional speech after the Mavericks' last home game of the season.
"As you might expect, this was my last home game," Nowitzki told the home crowd, trying to hold back his tears.
The 40-year-old contributed season-high 30 points and eight rebounds to Mavericks' 120-109 victory over Phoenix Suns in his last show at the American Airline Center.
In his record 21 seasons with the Mavericks, he led the team to 15 playoff appearances and its first and only NBA championship in the franchise history in 2011. The German star was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2007 and the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2011.
Nowitzki, a 14-time All-Star and a 12-time All-NBA team member, now stands sixth in the all-time scoring list with 31,540 points.
The fans also saw off the Suns' 39-year-old guard Jamal Crawford, who scored an amazing 51 points in his career-ender.
