The World Winter Sports (Beijing) Expo 2019 will be held from Oct. 17 to 20, offering more than 20 parallel sessions and auxiliary events, according to a briefing held on June 12 to introduce the highlights and features of the expo.

The expo will continue its theme of "the Power of Ice and Snow" from last year. It will include exhibitions, forums, industrial exchanges, and auxiliary events.

It will be held in an exhibition area of more than 30,000 square meters, gathering more than 240 guest speakers, more than 600 winter sports brands, and more than 600 media organizations. About 160,000 visitors, including 24,000 professionals, are expected to take part.

Beijing is hosting the expo as a way to support the preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics. As an important prep event for the Beijing 2022, the expo is establishing a platform to facilitate the development of the ice and snow industry, popularize ice and snow sports, engage the public, and raise awareness for winter sports.

According to the data released at the briefing, the ice and snow industry will be worth more than 600 billion yuan (US$86.73 billion) by 2022 and more than 1 trillion yuan by 2025. By 2022, there will be 650 rinks and 1,100 ski resorts nationwide. By the end of 2018, Chinese people had made 19.3 million trips to ski resorts. By 2025, there will be more than 5,000 schools specializing in winter sports. Beijing is anticipating 50,000 available jobs for winter sports professionals.
