The National Speed Skating Oval, a new venue built for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, will be open year-round afterwards for uses of both professional athletes and the general public, according to Beijing's sports authorities.
Beijing's political advisors visited the city's Winter Olympics training center at the former steel-making complex Shougang on Wednesday to inspect on the development of ice and snow industry. They heard briefings from sports officials on the preparation for the upcoming Olympics, as well as the sustainability of the Olympics facilities for long-term use.
Apart from the National Speed Skating Oval, other venues will also be in use after the 2022 Olympics, according to the city's sports authorities. The National Alpine Ski Center and the National Sliding Centre in Yanqing district will be used for training after the games. The Big Air snowboarding site at the Shougang park will be maintained after 2022 in order for it to become the world's first permanent snowboarding site.
Regarding the development of ice and snow industry, political advisors said the city should put in more efforts toward the profitability of competitions and performances, technical trainings, as well as production of winter sports equipment.
