Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspurs have completed the signing of French midfielder Tanguay Ndombele from Olympique Lyon for a club record fee of 62 million euros (70 million U.S. dollars) plus another 10 million euros in possible add-ons.

The move has been confirmed by the Olympique Lyon website and the 22-year-old has agreed a six year contract.

The transfer sees the side that lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League final in Madrid continue to strengthen their squad as they look to improve on their fourth place finish from last season in the Premier League and continue to grow as a force in Europe.

The move comes on the same day the club confirmed the signing of Leeds United winger Jack Clarke for around 10 million pounds (12.6 million dollars), although the 18-year-old, who impressed last season in the Championship, will be loaned back to Leeds to allow him to have more game time and develop as a player.

Ndombele is an exciting midfielder who combines pace, technical ability and strength and should add extra bite to Tottenham's midfield.

The north-London based club are also thought to be interested in Roma's young midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo and are also thought to be in the market for both a right and a left back before the new Premier League season kicks off on August 9.

However, the club could face a challenge to keep hold of creative midfielder Christian Eriksen, who said over the summer that he wanted a new challenge and who is one of the players being linked with interest from Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
