Spain international midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez has ended his contract with Atletico Madrid by paying the 70 million euros (79 million US dollar) buyout clause.

The 23-year-old visited the headquarters of the Spanish football league on Wednesday to make the payment, just a day before the majority of Atletico's players are due to report back to begin pre-season training.

Hernandez is now expected to join Pep Guardiola's Manchester City after the Premier League champions have tracked his progress for much of this season.

Hernandez follows French defender Lucas Hernandez is paying his buyout clause in order to leave Atletico this summer, with Lucas joining German champions Bayern Munich.

Antoine Griezmann has also confirmed he will abandon the club, with the French striker saying during the summer that he would pay his buyout clause, which dropped from 200 million to 120 million euros on July 1st.

Griezmann is expected to be confirmed as a new FC Barcelona player in the coming days.
