Ajax and Juventus agreed on the transfer of 19-year-old defender Matthijs de Ligt from Amsterdam to TurIn, both clubs announced on Thursday.

The transfer fee is 75 million euros (84.2 million U.S. dollars). De Ligt will sign a contract until mid-2024 at Juventus. His contract at Ajax expired in 2021.

With the deal a long transfer soap opera comes to an end. FC Barcelona, which already acquired Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in signing Ajax captain De Ligt. Last season in the Champions League a header by De Ligt eliminated Juventus and led Ajax to the semi-finals.

De Ligt came through the Ajax youth academy and debuted in the first team in September 2016. In total the 17-times Dutch international played 117 official matches for Ajax, in which he scored 13 times. Last season he captured the Dutch league title and the Dutch Cup with Ajax.
