No Chinese player in men's singles semis at Indonesia Open

No Chinese player advanced into the men's singles semi-finals, but China triumphed in other events of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament in Jakarta on Friday.

The only Chinese of top 8, Huang Yuxiang lost to Thailand's Kantaphon Wangcharoen in straight sets, 21-10, 21-17 at Istora Senayan badminton arena.

Chen Yufei is the only Chinese in the women's singles semis after beating American Zhang Beiwen, 21-14, 17-21, 21-16. She will meet Indian Pusarla V. Sindhu.

In men's doubles, China's Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen will take on the defending champions Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulja from the host country next.

The Chinese pair assured the semifinal berth after sending out their compatriots He Jiting/Tan Qiang by 21-17 and 21-12.

No. 1 mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong from China, successfully earned the semifinal berth after defeating their British opponents Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith, 21-12, 21-13.

"I did not expect the match could end that fast. It was because we had better preparation and more effective strategies throughout the match," Zheng Siwei said.

"As we already gone to this far, we are confident for the semifinal tomorrow. But still, we have to play it step by step and have more spirit during the match," he added.

In the semifinals, they will vie against Malaysian pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing.

Another Chinese mixed doubles pair Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping also earned a semifinal berth. They will vie against Malaysian semifinalists Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying.

Meanwhile in women's doubles group, the tournament's 2017 champion Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan from China will take on Japanese opponents Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in the semifinals.

The Chinese pair stopped their compatriots Du Yue/Li Yinhui, 21-17, 21-14.
