Houston Rockets confirmed Thursday that the team have signed free agent center Tyson Chandler.

Chandler was originally the second overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. The 18-year veteran began last season with the Phoenix Suns before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers early November. He averaged 3.1 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Suns and Lakers last season, his 18th in the NBA.

Chandler was NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2011-12 and has been named All-Defensive Team three times. He was also an All-Star in 2012-13.

Chandler was the starting center for the Dallas Mavericks during their championship season in 2010-11 and won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2012 London Games.
