The first test competition for the 2022 Winter Olympics will take place at the National Alpine Ski Center in the Yanqing competition zone in February 2020.

In preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympics, the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office organized a ceremony on July 24 to mark the 100-day countdown to the final sprint for the Yanqing competition zone projects.

The competition zone will host alpine skiing as well as ice sports events such as bobsled, luge, and skeleton during the 2022 Winter Olympics. To ensure the timely readiness of the venue, the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office said the racing tracks of the National Alpine Ski Center and supporting facilities will be ready by October.

The construction headquarters office has further set March 2020 as the goal for the National Sliding Center to meet the requirements of pre-verification for international events.

"Among the three competition zones, Yanqing is the most difficult one to construct," said Wang Gang, an official of the construction headquarters office. "China had never constructed alpine skiing venues before and we only had around two years for construction in the Yanqing competition zone."

Wang said the 100-day countdown was aimed at uniting all the project workers to ensure a successful delivery on time, which will lay a good foundation for the first test competition.

The National Alpine Ski Center is set to host 11 types of competitions, including downhill, super G, giant slalom, slalom, etc. According to the construction headquarters office, nearly 90% of work on the racing tracks has been completed, and the installation of snow cannons has begun. Meanwhile, other projects such as the National Sliding Center, Winter Olympics village, and media center are also under construction.

The world's first renewable-energy flexible DC grid is under construction. The grid will enable the transmission of clean energy from Zhangjiakou to Yanqing and Beijing competition zones, making the 2022 Winter Olympics the first Olympics in history to be fully powered by green energy. The underground power tunnel project in Yanqing will be completed first to activate the supply of water, electricity, and communications network to the Yanqing zone in September.
