Ligue 1 club Monaco on Wednesday announced the arrival of French striker Wissam Ben Yedder from Sevilla through a five-year contract, while Portuguese attacking midfielder Rony Lopes went in the opposite way.

After transferring to Sevilla from Toulouse in 2016, Yedder became the fourth best scorer in the club's history with 70 goals in 138 matches.

"I chose Monaco because I believe in this project and I am determined to do everything possible to go after our common ambitions," Yedder said after signing the contract.

Yedder was called by France's head coach Didier Deschamps in 2018 for a friendly match against Colombia, and participated in last three meetings of the World Cup winner including Euro 2020 qualifiers, finding the net once.

"I come with the intention to prove, as always, my qualities and with the desire to cross a new level. It's a beautiful day and the beginning of a new story that I can not wait to start," Yedder added.

Monaco's vice president and general manager Oleg Petrov described Yedder as "a player of great talent".

"Wissam is a complete striker who proved in Toulouse and Seville, but also in international competitions, all his sense of purpose. He is also a player with an exemplary mentality.

"His arrival is an important moment for Monaco. It demonstrates our desire to build an ambitious team to achieve the goals of the club," Petrov pointed out.

Lopes was recruited by Monaco in 2015. Following an excellent season with 15 goals and 4 assists in the 2017-2018 season of Ligue 1, Lopes was elected Monaco player of the season by fans.

Sevilla announced that Lopes has been tied with the club for the upcoming five seasons.
