Real Madrid's 18-year-old Japanese winger Takefusa Kubo will spend this season on loan at newly promoted Mallorca after passing a medical with the club.

Kuko flew to the island on Thursday and underwent a medical with the club before the deal was confirmed.

"I have thought about other options, but I am happy to join Mallorca and ready to play in their next game," the youngster told the media.

Kubo joined Real Madrid over the summer and impressed in pre-season. However, he can't be part of Madrid's first team squad, which already contains the maximum allowed number of players (3) without a European Union passport.

The Japanese international spent four seasons with the FC Barcelona youth system between 2011 and 2015, and was forced to return to his homeland as FIFA considered Barcelona was breaking the rules on signings of young players by having him.

Barca is also thought to have tried to sign him this summer, but Madrid made a better offer to Kubo's former club FC Tokyo.
