Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte will be out of action for several months after the club confirmed on Wednesday that he had undergone a successful knee operation.
The Frenchman was stretchered off the pitch in the 34th minute of his side's 4-0 win at home to Brighton last Saturday after a challenge from Adam Webster.
The statement release by City said that Laporte had "undergone surgery on his knee after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus."
"The surgery, carried out by doctor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona, was successful and a more detailed prognosis will be provided in due course."
Laporte's injury comes after Vincent Kompany left the club in the summer, while John Stones has also struggled with a thigh complaint, currently leaving Nicolas Otamendi as the only fully fit center-back for the Premier League champions.
