The National Winter Sports Training and Research Base for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games made its debut to the public with the unveiling of the 19,000-square-meter Speed Skating Training Hall. The training hall is equipped with three ice rinks that are the same scale as that of the National Speed Skating Oval, and it will enter into operation on Sept. 28 as the first supporting facility for the Winter Olympics.

The speed skating hall is part of the National Winter Sports Training and Research Base for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, which is located in the 100-year-old CRRC 27th Factory site. Upon completion, the base will be the "camp" for the national teams to prepare for the Winter Olympics. The total construction area of the base is about 58,600 square meters, including the speed skating hall, the roller skating hall, the staff dormitories, and the medical center. It's also equipped with a swimming pool.

The speed skating hall has three ice rinks, all of which meet the requirements of the Olympic Games. The speed skating hall project manager, Zhang Wanli, said that the effective construction time of the hall is only 10 month since its commencement on Sept. 28, 2018, demonstrating the acclaimed "China Speed."

Similar to other Winter Olympics supporting projects, the speed skating hall features a sustainable development concept. Eighty-two remaining steel columns from the old factory have become part of the supporting structure of the new building, saving up to 400 tons of steel. In addition, the old pieces of furniture of the 27th Factory are being re-used in the offices affiliated to the hall as well.
