Liverpool's Brazilian international goalkeeper Alisson Becker has confirmed that he is close to completing his recovery from a calf injury which has sidelined him since August 9th.

Alisson, who this week was named as the FIFA and UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year, was injured after just 39 minutes of Liverpool's first league game of the season against Norwich City and the 26-year-old has spent the time since then working to recover.

"I'm on a good way, I think we are nearly there," he said on the Liverpool website on Wednesday, explaining that he has stepped up his recovery work.

"I can go outside to the pitch to do some goalkeeper work and I feel very good. I feel confident and I think now it's just about getting all my power, all my confidence to come back and do what I love to do," said Alisson.

The keeper explained that he has made a lot of progress in the last two weeks.

"Two weeks ago I couldn't even walk properly. Now I'm running, jumping on my right leg that was injured so I'm really happy for that. It's great. When you are a player you want to have the contact with the ball, with the guys on the pitch, the routine of training. It's what I love to do," he said.

Alisson explained the frustration of being injured; "all of the games when I watch on the TV, I just think how I want to play, I want to be there, I want to help my team-mates," he said, although he had special words for Adrian San Miguel, who has filled in brilliantly since he was injuried.

"He's a special guy who came late in the season, he just came and shows everyone his value, not just as a player but as a person and that is the more important thing," he commented. Enditem
